Welcome back to another school year! Hopefully it will be full of new and exciting experiences. One of the wonderful opportunities your child will have this school year will be to receive regular guidance lessons in his/her classroom. During the month of September, I will be entering the classrooms and introducing (or reintroducing for returning students) myself, and what my role in your child’s school is as the School Counselor. As I do every year, I would like to extend this information to you as parents and/or guardians as well…
I am the School Counselor, or Guidance Counselor, for Mapleview, Jenks Hill, and Bell Township Elementary Schools. I am here to provide assistance to your child to help him/her succeed in academics, social settings, and to help guide them in his/her path to the future.
I work with the students in many different capacities throughout the school year. I work with children in the classroom through guidance lessons that focus on many different areas including success in school, coping with feelings, and making and keeping friends. I have many students that I see on either an individual basis or whom I work with in small groups. These students get a more individualized meeting to help work through specific topics that may have become a barrier to being the very best students they can be. These issues range from divorce, to death of a loved one, to anger issues, to behavior problems and everything in between. Parents, teachers, nurses, etc. can refer these students for counseling.
Another exciting program that I will be bringing back for the students this year is our “Spotlight on Good Behavior” program. This will present a focus each month in which the students can strive to be a role model for their peers and earn tickets to receive a certificate of recognition as well as a reward. September’s focus will be Responsibility and Readiness! Please encourage your child to discuss what this means as during the month our guidance lesson will introduce and reinforce this topic.
Please feel free to contact me at any time during the school year if you would like to discuss your child’s needs, have concerns, need information, or need further resources. I also have a home page through the Punxsutawney Area School District website where I will post all future newsletters and any important information. At any time or for any need during the school year, please feel free to call me at one of my three schools.I look forward to a wonderful school year!
